Mattcha (Green tea) ice cream is one of the most popular icecreams in Japan. It is a little bit bitter kind of sweets. If you love really sweet ice cream, probably you would think it is strange. But if you like green tea, please try to taste this. One of my American friends told me he loves Mattcha ice cream. He tried Mattcha ice cream when he visited Japan for the first time. When he tried this, he actually didn’t think it tastes nice. But after that he felt he wanted to eat it again. Then, during his stay in Japan, he ate Mattcha ice cream many times. (He said he did not like normal green tea when he tried to eat Macha icecream for the first time. Although he began to like Macha icecream and nowadays he drink green tea as well. It is difficult to find Mattcha icecream in Stockholm but if you have an ice cream machine, you can make it your self very easily! Milk, egg, sugar, and Mattcha (powder green tea). Even if you don’t add any cream, this is very soft and creamy. I also tried different fat percentage of milk, “red” milk (3.0%) and “green” milk (1.5%). I prefer gammaldags (4%) or red milk. If you like very creamy type of ice cream, as Swedish people do, probably it is better to add some cream. I brought Mattcha from Japan but you can buy it in Sweden in a Japanese food shop. Here.
